cultural dimensions with all senses

THIS BLOG

With the events going on in Finland in the past few years, culturally diverse would not be the first description that comes to mind about our Northern country. Even though today there seems to be a lot of hate crimes and right wing racism, there is also a bubbly, rich and culturally diverse minority of immigrants in Finland. I myself know quite a few raging from Indian to German, Swedish to American and Russian to Australian. Finland might not be the biggest kind of "melting pot" of cultures, such as London and New York are often referred to, but it is culturally diverse. All these cultural minorities offer something new and exciting about their world to ours, and this creates a possibility for new traditions to be born.

I didn't realise this before, but Finland has its own culture that is divided into subcultures. If you really want to get philosophical every person is their own culture, but let's leave that to the greater thinkers.

This blog is about cultural experiences in and out of Finland. I've moved 15 times all around Finland and I've also lived a year abroad in South America. Travelling is one of my dearest (and most expensive) hobbies, so this blog is my way of understanding the world and it's cultures. Different posts tackle the "cultural experience"-experience whether its about different Finnish cities and counties, travelling experiences, cultural shock, travel depression, the difference between East and West, North and South, inner and outer culture, working culture or language while reflecting these things to different socio-cultural theories (e.g. Hofstede and Lewis).

Welcome to my world of trying to understand cultures and appreciate them for their what they are.
